Biography

Dr. Ramon L. Rodriguez embarked on his medical journey at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus in San Juan, PR, where he earned his medical degree. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Neurology. Further honing his skills, he undertook a fellowship in the Medical and Surgical Management of Movement Disorders, guided by the esteemed Dr. Michael Okun, MD, Hubert. Fernandez, MD, and Dr. Kelly Foote, MD.

His exceptional expertise earned him an esteemed position as a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. Here, he served as the Director of Clinical Services for the UF Center for Movement Disorders and Director of the Clinical Research Center for Neurological Disorders. His leadership oversaw more than 50 clinical research studies, spanning Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Dystonia, Alzheimer’s disease, Deep Brain Stimulation, Advanced therapies for Parkinson’s disease, and Telemedicine for Movement Disorders.

After a fulfilling 11-year tenure at the University of Florida, Dr. Rodriguez was entrusted with the role of Chief of the Neurology Section at the Orlando VA Medical Center. Here, he established the Parkinson’s Disease Consortia Site, a Center of Excellence for PD, providing unparalleled care for veterans in Central Florida. For over two decades, Dr. Rodriguez has passionately cared for patients with complex movement disorders and cognitive disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, “Parkinson’s plus syndromes,” Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders.

Dr. Rodriguez has dedicated years to clinical research, striving to delay or arrest the progression of neurodegenerative disorders. His expertise and extensive research experience have earned him numerous accolades and invitations to lecture at national and international forums. He has educated physicians worldwide on the proper assessment of patients with neurological disorders, conducted research on human subjects, and treated patients in all stages of PD, HD, and Dystonia, among other things.

Dr. Rodriguez’s journey to neurology was inspired by a personal tragedy when his father suffered a fatal stroke at the age of 40. This event, coupled with the support of his mother and the mentorship of great doctors, fueled his desire to help others. Along this journey, he found a partner in his wife, Jennifer, a healthcare professional who shares his passion for helping others. They are blessed with two children, Sophia and David, and enjoy family time at parks, reading, traveling, exploring new cuisines, and playing golf and tennis. Dr. Rodriguez also enjoys gardening in his leisure time. His story is a testament to his dedication to his profession and his commitment to making a difference in the lives of his patients.
