Biography

Dr. Ramon L. Rodriguez received his medical degree (M.D.) from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus in San Juan, PR. He then completed his Internal Medicine and Neurology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. After finishing his residency, he extended his education with a fellowship in the Medical and Surgical management of Movement Disorders under the mentorship of Dr. Okun, MD, H. Fernandez, MD, and Dr. K Foote, MD.

He was then honored with an invitation to join as a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida as the Director of Clinical Services for the UF Center for Movement Disorders and Director of the Clinical Research Center for Neurological Disorders, where he supervised over 50 clinical research studies encompassing areas such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Dystonia, Alzheimer’s disease, Deep Brain Stimulation, Advanced therapies for Parkinson’s disease, Telemedicine for Movement Disorders.

After 11 years in Gainesville Fl, he was offered to be the Chief of the Neurology Section at the Orlando VA Medical Center where he established the Parkinson’s Disease Consortia Site, a Center of Excellence for PD for veterans in Central Florida. For more than a decade, Dr. Rodriguez has followed his passion of caring for patients with complex movement disorders and cognitive disorders. Besides PD, Dr. Rodriguez also cares for patients with “Parkinson’s plus syndromes”, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.

He has performed over 10,000 botulinum toxin procedures and spent many years performing clinical research looking to delay or arrest the progression of neurodegenerative disorders.

He has been invited to lecture in several national and international forums, been honored with the opportunity to teach physicians all over the world about the proper assessment of patients with neurological disorders, how to conduct research in human subjects and how to treat patients in all stages of PD, HD and Dystonia, amongst others. His expertise as a physician and his extensive experience in research has awarded him multiple accolades during the years.

When Dr. Rodriguez was eight years old, his father suffered a massive and fatal stroke. His father was only 40 years old. It was a very challenging time for him and his family. This event inspired Dr. Rodriguez to become a neurologist. Every time he treats a person, he tries to relate to their situation. Dr. Rodriguez was blessed with the support of his mom to pursue a medical career, and the mentorship of great doctors that challenged him to find ways to help others. Along the journey, he met his wife Jennifer, who shares the same passion for helping others and has a healthcare background, and they have two children, Sophia and David. They enjoy going to parks, reading, traveling, and exploring new cuisines. When he’s free he enjoy playing golf, tennis and watching college football.
