Honoring Our Veterans: Neurology One as a VA-Authorized Community Care Provider

At Neurology One, we are proud to serve the men and women who have served our country. As a VA-Authorized Community Care Provider, we offer specialized neurological care to veterans, ensuring they receive the quality healthcare they deserve. Our team, led by Orlando neurologists Dr. Lourdes Benes and Dr. Ramon Rodriguez, provides expert care to veterans seeking comprehensive Central Florida neurological care.

What Does Being a VA-Authorized Community Care Provider Mean?

Being a VA-Authorized Community Care Provider allows us to offer our neurological services to veterans outside of the traditional VA healthcare system. Veterans who qualify for VA Community Care have the option to receive care at Neurology One, where we provide advanced treatment options for a wide range of neurological conditions, including:

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Treatment:

Veterans are often at higher risk for TBI due to their service in active combat zones. Our team is experienced in diagnosing and managing TBI and its symptoms, such as memory loss, cognitive impairment, and mood changes.

PTSD and Neurology:

Many veterans experience Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which can have significant neurological effects. We understand the complex relationship between PTSD and brain health, working collaboratively to address both the physical and emotional challenges veterans face.

Chronic Pain and Neuropathy:

Combat injuries and long-term physical demands often result in chronic pain conditions such as neuropathy. Our expert team provides tailored chronic pain management and neuropathy treatment for veterans, including pain relief solutions and comprehensive care plans.

Neurodegenerative Diseases:

Veterans may be at an increased risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other forms of dementia, including Lewy Body Dementia and Frontotemporal Dementia. We specialize in early diagnosis and provide comprehensive treatment plans to help veterans and their families navigate these conditions.

Migraines and Headaches:

Many veterans suffer from migraines or chronic headaches due to stress or service-related injuries. We offer advanced migraine treatment, including Botox® for migraines, which is proven effective for chronic migraine relief.

Memory Problems and Cognitive Decline:

Memory issues are common among veterans, particularly those with a history of TBI or PTSD. Neurology One offers cognitive assessments and personalized treatments for veterans dealing with memory difficulties, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and other cognitive challenges.

The Expertise of Dr. Lourdes Benes and Dr. Ramon Rodriguez

At Neurology One, veterans receive care from experts who understand their unique challenges. Both Dr. Lourdes Benes and Dr. Ramon Rodriguez previously worked at the VA in Orlando, FL, where they provided neurological care to veterans. Their experience at the VA has given them a deep understanding of the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of veterans, and they bring this valuable knowledge to their practice at Neurology One.

What Is VA Community Care?

VA Community Care is a program that allows veterans to receive care from non-VA healthcare providers, such as Neurology One, under certain circumstances. This program was created to provide veterans with more flexible and convenient healthcare options when VA facilities are unable to meet their needs in a timely manner. Veterans may qualify for Community Care if they require services not available at a VA facility, live far from a VA healthcare facility, or if they cannot secure an appointment within a reasonable timeframe.

How to Access VA Community Care

Here’s how veterans can access VA Community Care at Neurology One:

What This Award Means to Us

1. Eligibility Determination:

Veterans must first determine their eligibility for Community Care, typically through consultation with their VA healthcare provider or by contacting the VA directly.

2. Referral from a VA Provider:

Referral from a VA Provider: If eligible, a VA provider will write a referral for care at Neurology One. This referral must be approved by the VA before an appointment can be scheduled.

3. Scheduling the Appointment:

Once the referral is approved, Neurology One or the VA will assist in scheduling an appointment with one of our neurologists.

4. Attend the Appointment:

Veterans will receive specialized neurological care at the scheduled appointment. Neurology One works closely with the VA to ensure continuity of care and communicate all treatment details to the veteran’s VA provider.

5. Ongoing Communication:

After the appointment, Neurology One coordinates with the VA to maintain seamless communication and ensure the veteran’s overall treatment plan is followed.

Streamlined Care for Veterans

At Neurology One, we make the process of neurological care for veterans as streamlined as possible by coordinating with the VA, providing comprehensive treatments, and reducing wait times.
